MilTalk Official Website
MilTalk began as a Discord group for a satire and whimsical social media war on TikTok, a conflict known as the MilTok Civil War. At it’s core, the MilTok Civil War was a collection of content creators from different branches coming together to make fun of the other branches – a past time all active and previous servicemembers are familiar with. The Discord server served as a meeting location to coordinate and collaborate on different videos. However, as the fun of the MilTok Civil War drew to an end, the question of what to do with the server arose.
Eventually, the administrators of the Discord server decided to convert the discord into a server that focused on helping out other veterans and active duty members, as well as assisting with mental health problems that are faced by so many servicemembers today, both current and past. Not wanting to be tied to just one social media site, the decision was made to lose the TikTok affiliation of MilTok, and the name was changed to MilTalk, in an effort to encourage veterans to open up and talk about their feelings amongst like minded people.
MilTalk has worked together as a community to create an annual event known as MilTalk4Tots. Proceeds from product sales and donations from members get collected at the end of the year and are used to purchase toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign. In our first year, MilTalk collected over $1,600 for the MilTalk4Tots, filling the whole front office of a Marine Corps recruiting station in Annapolis, MD. A month later the community collected over $800 to help a military family bogged down by unforeseen medical bills, and used that money to help them with Christmas gifts and food for the holiday. This accomplishment was made possible by the uncanny and amazing way that veterans find a way to network together and make things happen.
Since then, the Discord server has added a Chaplain, Mental Health Nurse, VA Benefits Advisor, and a VA Loan Specialist to our ranks. Our mission is to help out veterans and active duty members whenever and however possible. While our ultimate goal is to become a 501C organization, right now we are focusing on bridging the gap between veterans having issues, and receiving professional help from the VA and other organizations.
