Furthering Yourself After the leaving the Military
Go back to school!
Going back to school after leaving the Military can be incredibly rewarding, especially with the Post 9/11 GI Bill. As a bonus, some of the schools you attending while on active duty, as well as you rank in most cases give you a handful of elective college credits to begin with. Why not go back to school and make all those early morning work for you for a change! Plus the monthly stipend isn’t bad either!
Learn a Trade Skill
If you like working with your hands and creating things, and reading, writing and arithmetic aren’t your favorite, consider learning a trade skill. Be it ironworking, millwrite, shipwright, pipefitting, instrument and calibration, electrician, or welding, there is a trade skill out there. There are several programs available to transitioning veterans that help place you in an apprenticeship program that trains you until you’ve earned your Journeyman qualification. The demand for qualified trade skill personnel continues to increase, and in some cases they pay better than some college education required jobs.
